Michigan State University's women's tennis team began its full-team Fall tournament season at the Toledo Rocket Invitational, competing against Toledo, DePaul, and Youngstown State.
The event started on Friday with doubles matches against Youngstown State. The pair of junior Issey Purser and redshirt-sophomore Hanna Tsitavets, along with the duo of redshirt-sophomore Oriana Parkins-Godwin and sophomore Natalie Stansy, secured victories with scores of 6-3 and 6-2 respectively.
Friday's competition continued with singles matches against Toledo. Spartans Stasny (6-2, 6-1), Purser (6-2, 6-0), and freshman Amara Brahmbhatt (6-4, 6-2) won their respective matches.
The evening concluded with additional singles matches versus Youngstown State. Michigan State triumphed as Stansy (6-2, 6-2), Tsitavets (6-1, 6-1), Purser (6-4, 6-1), and Brahmbhatt (6-0, 6-0) defeated their opponents.
Saturday morning featured doubles matches against DePaul. Despite a challenging effort from the Spartans, they did not secure any wins in this round. Later in the day during doubles play against Toledo, the team of Stasny and Purser achieved a victory with a score of 6-2; however, no other pairs managed to overcome their Toledo counterparts.
The tournament wrapped up with singles matches versus DePaul. Purser, Brahmbhatt, Parkins-Godwin, and Tsitavets each claimed victories in four out of six contests.
"It was a hard-fought battle on the courts," remarked an observer about the team's performance as they began their season successfully.
The Spartans are scheduled to return to Ohio for their next event on October 10 at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships. The participating players will be announced soon.
