Michigan State University's men's golf team is set to participate in the Windon Memorial Classic at Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, Illinois. The tournament, spanning two days and 54 holes, will commence on Sunday, September 29, with 36 holes and conclude on Monday, September 30, with an additional 18 holes.
The competition format is stroke play over 54 holes, with teams playing five golfers and counting the four best scores. Live stats for the event are available through Clippd.
Representing Michigan State are Ashton McCulloch, Caleb Bond, Julian Menser, Lorenzo Pinili, and Juan Velasquez. The course at Conway Farms Golf Club was opened in 1991 and is known for its Scottish links design by Tom Fazio. It spans 209 acres and emphasizes walking and fast play while supporting amateur golf.
The field includes Northwestern (host), Arizona, Augusta, East Tennessee State, Houston, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Marquette, Michigan State University (MSU), Notre Dame, Pepperdine University (PU), Purdue University (PU), South Florida University (SFU), and UC Davis.
MSU's recent performance includes a fifth-place finish at the Canadian Collegiate Invitational with a score of six-under-par 858. Earlier in the season they placed fourth at the Folds of Honor Collegiate with nine-over-par 861. Senior Ashton McCulloch has been leading the team with a scoring average of 68.66 across two events. Junior Caleb Bond follows with a scoring average of 71.50.
Head Coach Casey Lubahn commented on his team's progress: "For such a young group where we've had lineups featuring one or two freshmen along with a sophomore and a transfer, I'm pretty pleased with where we are at as a group. Caleb (Bond) has been a great addition and added some experience but we are really leaning on our youngsters not only to be contributors but to be consistent contributors. Like any team we'll have some growing pains but I'm excited about where we are going."
