For the first time in its history, Michigan State University's women's soccer team has achieved the top ranking in the United Soccer Coaches Poll. This milestone was announced by the organization on Tuesday afternoon.

The Spartans secured the No. 1 spot in the Week 6 poll following a successful week, which included a home victory against Nebraska on September 19 and a 1-0 shutout at then-No. 9 Penn State on September 22. The team boasts an impressive record of 8-0-2 (3-0-0 B1G) this season, marking their best start ever.

This season, MSU has triumphed over two top-15 teams on the road: Penn State and then-No. 15 Notre Dame in their season opener on August 15. Their only ties were against then-No. 9 Arkansas on August 22 and then-No. 15 Xavier on September 1. In this week's poll, Arkansas is ranked No. 2 behind Michigan State.

Additionally, for the second consecutive week, the Spartans hold the No. 1 position in the NCAA women's soccer RPI rankings.

Michigan State is scheduled to play against No. 11 Ohio State at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on Thursday, September 26 at 7 p.m.
