Michigan State women’s golf team ranks fourth after first day of Mary Fossum Invitational

Michigan State's women's golf team recorded a two-round total of 6-over par 582, placing them fourth among 15 teams after the first day of play at the Mary Fossum Invitational. The tournament, held at Forest Akers West, will conclude on Monday morning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.

The Spartans shot a 2-over par 290 in the opening round and followed with a 4-over par 292 during a second round played in rainy conditions.

Ole Miss leads the tournament with an impressive two-round total of 13-under par 563 (274-289), holding an 11-shot lead. Minnesota is in second place at 2-under par 574, followed by Florida at third with a score of 5-over par 581. Michigan rounds out the top five teams at 13-over par 589.

Senior Caitlyn Macnab set both a course and tournament record by shooting a remarkable 9-under par 63 in the opening round. She currently leads the field at 8-under par 136 (63-73).

Senior Brooke Biermann leads Michigan State, tied for third place overall at 3-under par 141 (68-73). Senior Katie Lu is tied for thirteenth place at1-overpar145(74-71), sophomore Ana Sofia Murciais tied for twenty-fourth placeat4-overpar148(73-75), junior Taylor Kehoe is tied for twenty-eighth placeat5-overpar149(75-74), and junior Paula Balanzategui is tied for thirty-second placeat6-overpar150(76-74).

Four Spartans are competing as individuals: freshman Catalina Monroy is tied for nineteenth placeat3-overpar147(71-76), senior Shannon Kennedy is tied for forty-first placeat7-overpar151(76-75), junior Amelie Weber is tied for sixty-second placeat11-overpar155(76-79), and sophomore Ella Weber is tied for seventy-sixth placeat16-overpar160(79-81).

Michigan State will begin their final round of play on Monday morning alongside golfers from Michigan and Miami.
