Michigan State wore its green jerseys and pants for the road game at Boston College on Saturday night, coinciding with BC's 11th-annual Red Bandanna game. The Eagles donned special tribute white jerseys with red bandanna print on their numbers.
Saturday marked the first meeting between Michigan State and Boston College since 2007, and the seventh meeting all-time between the Spartans and Eagles. This was the fourth encounter in Boston, with Boston College leading the overall series 5-1-1.
Offensively, MSU scored on its opening drive for the third straight game, this time concluding with Jonathan Kim's 41-yard field goal in the first quarter. This was Michigan State's first opening drive score via a field goal this season.
The Spartans' 18-play, 89-yard drive that lasted 9:24 set new season records for longest drive by plays, yards, and time. Sophomore quarterback Aidan Chiles completed 17 of 35 passes for 241 yards and added a career-high 57 rushing yards over nine attempts. Chiles also scored his third rushing touchdown of the season with a one-yard run in the second quarter.
Senior wide receiver Montorie Foster Jr. recorded a season-high 87 yards on four catches, including a pivotal 40-yard reception in the second quarter that set up MSU's first touchdown of the game. Junior tight end Jack Velling achieved career highs with six catches for 77 yards.
Graduate running back Kay'ron Lynch-Adams matched his season-high rushing attempts with 15 carries for 61 yards.
Defensively, MSU logged four sacks in the game, marking their third game this season with three or more sacks. Graduate defensive lineman Khris Bogle tied for a team-high six tackles, including half a tackle for loss. Junior defensive back Malik Spencer also had six stops and recorded his first career forced fumble on the goal line in the fourth quarter.
Redshirt junior defensive back Charles Brantley registered a pass break-up for his fourth consecutive game. Graduate linebacker Cal Haladay forced his fourth career fumble early in the first quarter.
On special teams, Ray Guy Award Watch List member Ryan Eckley kicked a 50-yard punt on his first attempt of the night. Graduate placekicker Jonathan Kim made four field goals during the game, including two from beyond 50 yards.
Kim has now made at least one field goal in each of his last three games and is perfect on eight attempts this season. He also added one extra point to bring his total to nine out of ten for this year.
