MSU women’s tennis team begins fall season at ITA All-American Championships

Michigan State University’s women’s tennis team is set to commence their fall tournament schedule this weekend at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championships in Cary, North Carolina, from September 21-27.

Senior Liisa Vehviläinen and junior Matilde Morais will represent the Spartans in the pre-qualifying rounds on Saturday and Sunday.

Vehviläinen concluded her third season of collegiate tennis, her second with Michigan State, with a balanced record of 11-11 in singles matches.

Morais led the team with 12 singles victories. She primarily played on the Spartans' top court, recording a 7-9 tally in 16 matches on the No. 1 court and a 2-2 record in four matches on the No. 2 court.

Next week, the Spartans will travel to Toledo, Ohio, to compete in the Toledo Rocket Invitational, marking their first full-team tournament of the Fall 2024 season.

The fall schedule continues with several tournaments: ITA Midwest Regional Championship, Michigan State Classic Presented by Auto Owners Insurance, Spartan Invite, and NCAA Sectional Championship.

The NCAA Individual Championships will conclude the 2024 fall season on November 24, allowing the Spartans time to prepare for their extensive spring schedule.
