Michigan State University athletics have a busy week ahead with various teams competing in significant matches and tournaments from September 18 to 24.
**Women's Soccer**
The women's soccer team faces two top conference opponents this week. On Thursday, MSU will host Nebraska at 6 p.m. The Spartans and Huskers shared the 2023 Big Ten regular-season championship. Three days later, MSU travels to Penn State for a 2 p.m. match against the Nittany Lions, who are ranked in the Top 10 nationally. Michigan State is currently ranked No. 1 in the RPI, released Monday by the NCAA.
**Volleyball**
The volleyball team will play its final two non-conference matches on the road against Duke on Friday and North Carolina on Sunday. Michigan State holds a record of 6-3 entering the weekend, having won five of its last six contests.
**Women's Tennis**
Michigan State's women's tennis team begins its fall season with participation in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championship from September 21-28 in Cary, North Carolina.
**Men's Tennis**
Members of the men's tennis team will compete in the ITA All-American Championships starting Saturday in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Notably, Aristotelis Thanos recently represented Greece in the Davis Cup (World Group I), playing both singles and doubles.
**Field Hockey**
The field hockey team has a notable week of Big Ten action ahead. On Friday, MSU plays at Ohio State at 4 p.m., followed by hosting Michigan on Monday at 3 p.m., a contest that will be televised live on Big Ten Network. Last Sunday's win over Colgate marked Helen Knull's 100th career victory as head coach.
**Men's Soccer**
The men's soccer team takes its undefeated Big Ten record on the road to face Penn State after opening conference play with a win over Washington last Friday. Jonathan Stout scored the lone goal of that match, while freshman Brandon Munson earned recognition for an acrobatic clear that was featured on SportsCenter's Top 10 Plays.
**Football**
The football team carries a perfect record into their final non-conference game against Boston College after shutting out Prairie View A&M with a score of 40-0. The Spartans' defense ranks tied for fifth nationally with eleven sacks through three games and ninth with nine tackles for loss per game.
**Women's Golf**
Michigan State hosts the Mary Fossum Invitational at Forest Akers West Golf Course on Sunday and Monday. This tournament honors long-time Hall of Fame coach Mary Fossum who led MSU to six Big Ten championships during her tenure.
