Michigan State finishes first day of Canadian Collegiate Invitational in fifth place

Michigan State's men's golf team concluded the first day of the Canadian Collegiate Invitational in fifth place among 10 teams. The event, held at the Oviibyrd Golf Club in Foots Bay, Ontario, Canada, saw the Spartans shoot an even-par 576 (289-287) on Monday.

Missouri leads the tournament with a score of 22-under par 554 (281-273), followed by Michigan and Notre Dame tied for second place at 11-under par 565. Kent State holds third place at 6-under par 570.

Senior Ashton McCulloch is tied for fifth place individually with a score of 7-under par 137 (69-68). Junior Caleb Bond is tied for ninth place at 4-under par 140 (72-68). Freshman Joe Canitano stands in 36th place at 5-over par 149 (73-76), while classmate Julian Menseris is tied for 44th place at 9-over par 153 (78-75). Sophomore Lorenzo Pinili is tied for 46th place at 10-over par 154 (75-79).

Freshman Drew Miller, playing as an individual, shot a score of 12-over par 156 (79-77) and is tied for 49th place.

The final round will commence on Tuesday at Oviibyrd Golf Club. This tournament marks the first NCAA Division I men's golf event held in Canada and includes teams with strong Canadian connections along with champions from the Canadian University/College Championship.

The individual winner will receive an exemption into the RBC Canadian Open in 2025, while the top five finishers will earn exemptions into the Canadian Men's Amateur Championship in the same year.
