Senior Ashton McCulloch finished in fourth place overall, leading Michigan State's men's golf team to a fourth-place finish among 15 teams at the third annual Folds of Honor Collegiate, held at American Dunes Golf Club in Grand Haven, Mich.
The Spartans completed the three-day, 54-hole tournament at 9-over par 861 (287-284-290), including a 6-over par 290 in Wednesday's final round.
Alabama led from start to finish and topped the field at 12-under par 840. Illinois secured second place at 5-under par 847, Texas took third at 3-over par 855, MSU placed fourth at 9-over par 861, and Notre Dame rounded out the top five at 11-over par 863.
McCulloch shot an even-par 71 in the third round and finished tied for fourth place alone at 6-under par 207 (67-69-71). He had five birdies on the front nine, including four straight, and concluded his round with six birdies total.
Junior Caleb Bond shot a 4-over par 75 in the third round and tied for 18th place at 5-over par 218 (73-70-75).
Freshman Julian Menser closed out his first collegiate tournament with a score of two over-par (73) on Wednesday and finished tied for fortieth place at ten over-par (223) (73-77-73).
Sophomore Lorenzo Pinili tied for forty-first place at eleven over-par (224) (74-70-80), posting an eight over-par score of eighty in the third round.
Freshman Juan Velasquez posted his best round of the tournament on Wednesday's final round, finishing even-par seventy-one. He ended up tying for forty-fifth place with fourteen over-par (227) (81-75-71).
Michigan State will be back in action next week as they travel to McCulloch's home province of Ontario to compete in the Golf Canada Collegiate on Monday, Sept.16 and Tuesday, Sept.17.
