CHICAGO – For the second time in her career, fifth-year libero Nalani Iosia has been named B1G Defensive Player of the Week. Iosia is just the fourth Spartan all-time to earn two B1G defensive weekly honors in a career since the award originated in 2005, joining Allyson Karaba (2007-10), Alexis Mathews (2009-13), and Kori Moster (2011-14).
Iosia was a standout for the Spartans all weekend, earning All-Tournament Team honors at the second annual Kathy DeBoer Invitational presented by Auto-Owners Insurance. Her 25 digs against Western Kentucky were instrumental in the Spartans' victory. Iosia led all Spartans with 56 digs on 5.09 digs per set, passing a 2.65 rating on 73 percent positive pass.
It's the first B1G weekly honor of the season for Michigan State, who earned a pair of B1G Defensive Player of the Week accolades last season (Iosia, Amani McArthur). The Spartans are coming off a 3-0 weekend at home in which they defeated Western Kentucky (3-1), Marist (3-0), and Loyola Chicago (3-1).
MSU remains at home this week, meeting Western Michigan for an intrastate match at 6:00 on Wednesday, September 11.
