Spartans tie for second after first round at Folds of Honor Collegiate

Michigan State's men's golf team is tied for second place after the first round of the Folds of Honor Collegiate, held at American Dunes. The Spartans recorded a 3-over 287, positioning them alongside Texas and Notre Dame among the 15 competing teams.

Alabama leads with a score of 9-under par 275. Illinois completes the top five with a score of 5-over par 290.

Senior Ashton McCulloch led Michigan State, finishing in second place individually with a score of 3-under par 68. McCulloch notably played his final nine holes at 5-under par, including three consecutive birdies.

Freshman Julian Menser and junior transfer Caleb Bond each scored 2-over par 73, tying for 17th place. Sophomore Lorenzo Pinili shot a 3-over par 74, tying for 26th place, while freshman Juan Velasquez finished with a score of 10-over par 81, placing him in the seventieth position.

The Spartans will begin their second round on Tuesday at 8:18 a.m., starting from the first hole and playing alongside Texas and Navy.
