Michigan State men's soccer concluded its non-conference schedule with a 3-0 defeat to Oakland in Rochester, Michigan, on Monday night.

With this loss, the Spartans' record stands at 1-3-2 for the season, while the Golden Grizzlies improve to 1-4-0.

Oakland took an early lead in the 25th minute when Jace Foster assisted Jack Klomparens, who scored with his left foot. Before halftime, Lejs Plicanic added two more goals for Oakland. He netted his first goal in the 34th minute with another assist from Foster and followed up with a second goal in the 41st minute, giving Oakland a 3-0 advantage at halftime.

Despite continued pressure from Michigan State in the second half, they were unable to reduce Oakland's lead. In the 53rd minute, junior defender Jeremy Sharp attempted to score for Michigan State but was stopped by Oakland goalkeeper Alex Flowers. Sharp and senior midfielder Sean Kerrigan each had four shots during the game.

Overall, Michigan State out-shot Oakland 21-8 and led in corner kicks 12-1. Flowers made nine saves for Oakland.

Michigan State will now begin its Big Ten schedule by hosting Washington on Friday, Sept. 13 at DeMartin Stadium.
