EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Tournament of Roses announced on Wednesday that former Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio, the winningest coach in school history, has been named to the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame Class of 2024.
Dantonio will be the third Spartan inducted into the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame, joining All-America running back Lorenzo White, who led MSU to a win in the 1988 Rose Bowl over USC, and Dave Kaiser, who kicked a game-winning 41-yard field goal in the final seconds of the 1956 Rose Bowl over UCLA.
Dantonio and the Spartans won the 100th Rose Bowl Game on Jan. 1, 2014, with a 24-20 victory over No. 5 Stanford. Michigan State won a school-record 13 games that season, finished No. 3 in the national polls, and claimed the school's eighth Big Ten Championship.
Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush from USC and All-America running back LaMichael James from Oregon will join Dantonio as part of the 2024 Rose Bowl Hall of Fame Class. This year's inductees will be honored in the 136th Rose Parade presented by Honda and on the field during the College Football Playoff Quarterfinal at the Rose Bowl Game presented by Prudential on Jan. 1, 2025. They will also be recognized in a private ceremony held by the Pasadena Tournament of Roses on Dec. 31.
The Rose Bowl Hall of Fame was established in 1989 to pay tribute to individuals who have contributed to the history and excitement of the Rose Bowl Game and those who embody passion, strength, tradition, and honor associated with The Granddaddy of Them All®.
With this year's class addition, there are now 146 inductees into the Hall over its 35-year history. Inductees are honored with a permanent plaque at The Court of Champions at Rose Bowl Stadium.
Dantonio was also elected to the College Football Hall of Fame Class of 2024 and will be officially inducted at its Annual Awards Dinner on Dec.10 at Bellagio Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. Inductees will also be recognized at their respective collegiate institutions during NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salutes throughout this season. Dantonio's salute is scheduled for Sept.28 vs Ohio State when he joins Spartan Stadium Ring of Fame.
