Michigan State University's junior midfielder Jonathan Stout has been named to the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Hermann Trophy Watch List, as announced on Thursday. The MAC Hermann Trophy is recognized as the most prestigious individual award in college soccer, presented annually to the top male and female players of the year.

Stout is the first Spartan to be included on this list since Giuseppe Barone and Patrick Nielsen in 2019. Previous Spartans who have received this honor include Ryan Sierakowski in 2017 and goalkeeper Avery Steinlage in 2010. In 2014, midfielder Jay Chapman became the first Spartan semifinalist for the Hermann Trophy.

Hailing from Wyoming, Michigan, Stout was second in scoring for his team last season with 10 points from five goals. He was also named to the Big Ten preseason Players to Watch list and earned first-team All-Big Ten honors as a sophomore. Additionally, he received first-team All-North Region recognition.

Stout joins Indiana's Samuel Sarver as the only other Big Ten representative on this year's Hermann Watch List, which includes a total of 16 players.

The 2024 watch list was compiled by members of the Division I Men's All-America Council from returning 2023 All-Americans and First Team All-Region players. On December 11, fifteen players will be named semifinalists following NCAA Division I All-American voting. Head coaches will then vote to select three finalists, with the winner announced on January 3, 2025, at a ceremony held at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis, Missouri.

The Spartans are set to open their season on Friday, August 22 against No. 25 SIUE at 9 p.m. ET.
