Michigan State's men's basketball team met with the media on Tuesday afternoon, one week ahead of the Spartans' 10-day trip to Spain.

Head Coach Tom Izzo and the MSU team will depart on Tuesday, August 13, and visit Madrid, Valencia, and Barcelona during the visit.

The Spartans are scheduled to play their first game in Madrid on August 15, followed by a game in Valencia on August 18, and their final game in Barcelona on August 20.

"I think we can get a lot out of this trip and we're looking forward to it," Izzo said. "I don't know about the competition as you never do. We went over that one year (2015) and played Olympic teams but with the Olympics going on now, we'll play more club teams and all-star teams, so that part of it, it's hard to say.

"It gives us a chance to play some games and practice for at the end of the summer so it will be a good trip in that respect. This is a very close-knit team. We've done a lot of things together this summer and this trip will be good in that respect."

This will be the team's first overseas trip since visiting Italy in 2015.
