With preseason practice starting on July 30 for the Michigan State football team, msuspartans.com provides a detailed breakdown of the offensive positions for the Spartans.

Michigan State will have a new look at quarterback in 2024 with four new additions. Sophomore Aidan Chiles, the No. 2 transfer portal quarterback in the nation and eighth-best player overall according to 247Sports, gained experience in a backup role at Oregon State last season. Graduate transfer Tommy Schuster comes to East Lansing after starting 42 games at North Dakota. MSU also signed freshmen Alessio Milivojevic and Ryland Jessee.

"Aidan Chiles transferred to Michigan State in January 2024 and went through spring practice with the Spartans," reads a statement from msuspartans.com. "Chiles was ranked the No. 2 quarterback and the No. 8 player overall in the transfer portal by 247Sports."

Redshirt junior running back Nathan Carter led Michigan State in rushing yards (798) and carries (185) in 2023 while starting all 12 games for the Spartans. Joining him is Kay'ron Lynch-Adams, a transfer from UMass who rushed for a career-high 1,157 yards and 12 TDs last season.

Assistant head coach Keith Bhonapha, also co-special teams coordinator, is in his first season as running backs coach.

The wide receivers group returns nine players under fifth-year coach Courtney Hawkins, including Montorie Foster Jr., who led the team with career highs of 43 receptions, 576 receiving yards, and three touchdown catches last season.

First-year offensive line coach Jim Michalczik inherits an offensive line with nine returning players, three incoming transfers, and a strong recruiting class of five signees. Among them is Brandon Baldwin who started ten games at left tackle last fall.

"One of the top offensive line coaches in the country," reads another excerpt from msuspartans.com about Michalczik's extensive experience.

The tight end group brings back four players and welcomes transfer Jack Velling from Oregon State under first-year coach Brian Wozniak. Velling set an OSU single-season record for most touchdowns by a tight end with eight last season.

"Velling had 29 catches for 438 yards overall in twelve games," states msuspartans.com.

The article concludes by mentioning other notable returning players such as sophomore Brennan Parachek and redshirt sophomore Michael Masunas.
