Former Michigan State baseball assistant coach Jake Boss Sr. will be inducted into the Michigan Baseball Hall of Fame at Jackson® Field™ this Saturday, July 20.

The induction ceremony will take place before the Lansing Lugnuts' game against the Great Lakes Loons, which begins at 7:05 p.m.

Boss Sr. joined the Spartan staff in 2008 under his son, head coach Jake Boss Jr., bringing with him extensive experience and accomplishments at both high school and collegiate levels. His contributions to baseball have earned him significant respect within Michigan's coaching community.

From 2008 to 2012, Boss Sr. served as a volunteer assistant coach for MSU. He later transitioned to broadcasting, working as an analyst alongside Scott Moore from 2014 to 2018.

In addition to his tenure at MSU, Boss held various coaching positions at high schools in the Greater Lansing area. He was head coach at Lansing Catholic Central from 2002 to 2008, where he received six district Coach of the Year honors and two regional and conference Coach of the Year awards.

Before his time at Lansing Catholic, Boss gained collegiate coaching experience at Alma College and Eastern Michigan University. He was an assistant coach at Alma from 1999 to 2001 and at Eastern Michigan from 1996 to 1999.

Boss began his head coaching career in 1973 at Lansing Everett High School, where he led the Vikings until 1996. During this period, he accumulated numerous accolades including seven conference Coach of the Year awards, four district Coach of the Year awards, and three regional Coach of the Year awards.

Over his combined 29 years as a head coach, Boss achieved more than 500 wins. He was inducted into the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1994 after winning multiple championships including three Diamond Classics and seven conference titles.

Beyond high school baseball, Boss was recognized by Major League Baseball organizations for over two decades. He served as Associate Major League Scout for the Toronto Blue Jays from 1983 to 1996 and also worked as an associate scout for the Los Angeles Dodgers. In recognition of his contributions, he was inducted into the Greater Lansing Hall of Fame in 2009.

Boss holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Michigan University (1967) in physical education and a master's degree from Michigan State University (1974) in curriculum development.

The Michigan Baseball Hall of Fame Class of 2024 also includes Detroit Stars legend Turkey Stearnes, University of Michigan record-setter Ken Hayward, and longtime Detroit Tigers scout Clyde Weir.

Founded on January 28, 2015, and located at Jackson® Field™, home of the Lansing Lugnuts—High-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics—the Hall aims to honor past baseball heroes from Michigan while celebrating current players and inspiring future generations.
