EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State men's track & field graduate student Heath Baldwin has been named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Great Lakes Region Field Athlete of the Year.
Baldwin, originally from Kalamazoo, Michigan, was previously recognized as Indoor Great Lakes Region Field Athlete of the Year in March after finishing as the runner-up in the heptathlon at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
At the Mt. SAC Relays, Baldwin set a new Big Ten Conference decathlon record with 8,470 points and surpassed his own MSU school record by 386 points, which was established at the 2023 Mt. SAC Relays. This performance also placed him seventh on the all-time collegiate chart.
During the season, Baldwin secured top-6 finishes in three different field events at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships.
In May, at the NCAA East First Round, Baldwin broke another school record in the 110m hurdles with a time of 13.71 seconds, surpassing Will Agodu's 2019 time of 13.75 seconds.
Baldwin now holds five school records: 110m hurdles, 60m hurdles, javelin, heptathlon and decathlon. This achievement ties him with All-American Morgan Beadlescomb (2018-22) for most individual program records at Michigan State University.
Baldwin is currently preparing for the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon from June 21-30.
