Lansing HRCS Department Invites Community to Provide Input on Temporary Alternative Housing

LANSING, MI - The Lansing Human Relations & Community Services (HRCS) Department and the HRCS Advisory Board are inviting members of the public to join them at a community input session to gather suggestions and ideas for goals regarding temporary alternative housing plans. Earlier this year the City opened a temporary overnight winter warming center in the Letts Community Center as a pilot program.

“We have learned so much over the past few months, working with our vendor and from clients using the warming center. Now it’s time to take what we’ve learned and gather further input so that we can make the best decisions moving forward. Using this year as our pilot program, it is so important that we gather input now from the community and I look forward to gathering constructive ideas,” said HRCS Director Kimberly A. Coleman.

Thursday, February 15

5-7pm

Foster Community Center, Room 213

200 N Foster, Lansing

“Longer-term solutions to assist those who need assistance with housing are so important. The pilot overnight warming center at Letts Community Center was an initial opportunity to offer a way for people to get out of the cold, and I look forward to more ideas on how to do this for the future,” stated Mayor Andy Schor. “More input from our HRCS Advisory Board, city leaders, partner agencies, and the community will help us make this a better program.”

The City of Lansing was awarded $800,000 last year by the State of Michigan to implement solutions to assist those facing housing insecurity and homelessness. This input session will allow the HRCS Advisory Board and members of the public to participate in a process to drive ideas and recommendations for the future.
