The City of Lansing Public Service Department announces that the following street closures and travel lane restrictions will be in effect starting on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, for Silver Bells in the City.
Traffic lane closing at approximately 7:00 am on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, through noon on Saturday, November 18, 2023:
- Northbound Capitol Avenue traffic lane to be closed between Michigan Avenue and Ottawa Street to accommodate the Showmobile
- Allegan Street between Washington Square and Grand Avenue for the Silver Bells Village
- Lane restrictions for this activity on Allegan Street will begin west of Townsend Street
- Walnut Street from Allegan Street to Ottawa Street will be closed for the Drone Light Show staging area
- Northbound Washington Avenue from Malcolm X Street to St. Joseph Street
- Kalamazoo Street from Grand Avenue to Cherry Street – 12 Noon
- Washington Avenue from St. Joseph Street to Lenawee Street
- Southbound Grand Avenue from Kalamazoo Street to Hillsdale Street
- Hillsdale Street from Capitol Avenue to Grand Avenue
- Allegan Street from Capitol Avenue to Grand Avenue
- Southbound Capitol Avenue from Kalamazoo Street to St. Joseph Street - 3:55 pm
- Washington Square from Lenawee Street to Ottawa Street - 4:00 pm
- Southbound Capitol Avenue from Lenawee Street to St. Joseph Street
- Michigan Avenue from Capitol Avenue to Grand Avenue
- Washtenaw Street from Townsend Street to Grand Avenue
- Lenawee Street between Capitol Avenue and Grand Avenue
- Kalamazoo Street between Townsend Street and Grand Avenue
- Ottawa Street from Grand Avenue to Seymour Avenue
- Allegan Street between Pine Street and Washington Square - 5:30 pm
- Washtenaw Street from Pine Street to Walnut Street - 5:30 pm
- Walnut Street between Washtenaw Street and Ottawa Street. - 5:30 pm
- Northbound Capitol Avenue between Ionia Street and Ottawa Street - 5:30 pm
Sidewalk Closures for the Firefly Drone Show:
Prior to the beginning of the drone light show the following sidewalks will be closed to pedestrian traffic and reopened at the conclusion of the show on Friday, November 17, 2023:
- Allegan Street between Pine Street and Capitol Avenue
- Walnut Street between Ottawa Street and Washtenaw Street
- Washtenaw Street between Pine Street and Capitol Avenue
- Ottawa Street between Pine Street and Capitol Avenue
Violators Will be Ticketed and Towed at the Owner’s Expense
Wednesday, November 15, 2023, beginning at approximately 6:00 pm:
- No parking on the East Side of Capitol Avenue from Michigan Avenue to Ottawa Street
- No parking on Allegan Street between S. Washington Square and Grand Avenue
- No parking on Washington Avenue from St. Joseph Street to Lenawee Street
- No parking on Capitol Avenue between Lenawee Street and St. Joseph Street
- No parking on Lenawee Street between S. Capitol Avenue and Grand Avenue
- No parking on Hillsdale between S. Capitol Avenue and Grand Avenue
- No parking on Ottawa Street between Washington Square and Capitol Avenue
- No parking on Capitol Avenue between Ottawa Street and Lenawee Street
- No parking on Allegan Street between Pine and Washington Square
- No parking on Washtenaw Street between Pine and Walnut Street
- No parking on Walnut Street between Allegan Street and Ottawa Street
- No parking on Ottawa Street between Grand Avenue and Seymour Avenue
- No parking on Capitol Avenue between Ionia Street and Ottawa Street

The Public Service Department strongly encourages those in the downtown area to utilize caution and patience during the Silver Bells set-up. If you would like to avoid traffic back-ups and the significant amount of road closures, it is recommended for you to vacate the downtown area by 3:30 pm on Friday, November 17, 2023.
