Killed in the Line of Duty

Today, we remember and honor fallen East Lansing Police Officer James S. Johnson, the only officer to be killed in the line of duty in the East Lansing Police Department's history. Today marks the 38th anniversary of Officer Johnson's end of watch.
Each year on the anniversary of Officer Johnson's passing, the ELPD Honor Guard makes an annual trip to Bedford, MI, where he and his wife, Valerie, are buried, to perform gravesite maintenance and honor his memory.
