The #EastLansing Fire Department is continuing with its five days of activities for families for #NationalFireSafetyWeek! Today's activity covers how to develop an escape plan with your children:
DEVELOP AN ESCAPE PLAN
Using sidewalk chalk, help your children draw a simple layout of your home floor plan on your driveway. Mark locations of doors, windows, stairs and large furniture.
1. Find the quickest and most direct escape path out of the house.
2. Find a second way out if the first path is blocked by fire.
3. Establish the meeting place for you and your family. It should be a place outside, in front of your home.
4. Visit each room and have the children practice the escape routes, following the drawn floor plan.
5. Practice with all family members and meet at the meeting place.
6. Someone must call 911.
7. Find additional home fire escape plan information and tips from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) here: https://bit.ly/3EP76Th.
