Citizens seeking to update their voter registration information will be afforded new means to do so by the Michigan Bureau of Elections as it updates maintenance measures that have garnered the most precise list in voter history, according to a release from Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson's office.

"Michigan's voter registration list is more accurate than ever before thanks to the work we've done in recent years to ensure accessible elections with secure list-maintenance protocols," Benson said.

Voters can now visit Michigan.gov/Vote to update their information when needed and that the bureau will also send notices to addresses for voters who have moved, along with making it easy for voters to verify the notices and cancel or update their information, the release said.

If the notice prompts no response then, in step with federal law, the registration “remains inactive for at least two statewide election cycles before it can be canceled,” the release said.

"The statewide mailings, interstate data sharing, daily reconciliation with the driver file and other activities we're conducting constitute the most thorough and precise list maintenance initiative in Michigan history," Benson said. "It's shameful that legislative leaders are attacking Michigan's democracy by spreading lies and misinformation about the state's voter list in an attempt to undermine public faith in our elections, but we will continue to manage the list transparently and in accordance with the law."

Michigan has eradicated 330,374 voter registrations of voters who have died since 2019, along with 7,294 registrations for people who requested the action with 441,483 registrations currently inactive due to possible moves, the release said.

Michigan has over 8 million voters and the state’s "motor-voter" system has led to more voter registration by providing citizen’s the chance to do so when updating their driver's licenses and state IDs, the release said.
