Charlotte Aquatic Center Launches New Hours and Programs

R

Charlotte Public Schools issued the following announcement on Oct 27.

Family swim, exercise classes and after school swim are just a few of the programs offered at the Aquatic Center

Charlotte Aquatic Center is excited to announce it is once again fully open with longer hours, expanded programming, and a developing competitive swimming program. There is no longer a requirement to make reservations for lanes or swim time and our locker rooms are fully open and ready for use.

CAC has expanded its programming to include after school programs for students in grades 1-8.  Parkview Elementary has completed their first round of swimming lessons after school and Washington Elementary just started their four weeks of lessons.  Our students stay after school with a lifeguard and then ride the bus to the aquatic center where they have swim lessons and free swim time.  Charlotte Upper Elementary (CUE) students have swimming lessons right after school as well.  They walk over after class and have their lessons.

Tiger Sharks is our club swim team.  We have 25 members on the swim team and continue to grow.  Tiger Sharks practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school and also have a bus that provides transportation to practice from Parkview and Washington.  Registration is always open for Tiger Sharks and we are always anxious to welcome swimmers to the team.  In order to join the Tiger Shark swim team a child must be able to swim 25 yards front crawl and 25 yards back crawl.  We will continue to work with them on stroke development and strength building.

Afterschool swims are another part of our school programming for CPS students.  Each Friday a grade level from the lower elementary and a grade level from the CUE have an open swim after school.  We have had approximately 50 students each week participating in the afterschool swim on Fridays.

Every Friday night we also have a $5.00 family swim in which all members of a household can swim at this special family rate.  This is a fun and inexpensive way to spend a Friday night.  This week we will have a special program called Spooky Swimming.  Participants will get to swim with the overhead lights off, and just the pool lights on with lots and lots of glow sticks.  Spooky Swimming will be from 7:00 - 8:30 on Friday night.  No registration is needed, just come ready to have fun.

The fun at Charlotte Aquatic Center has not been just for the kids as we have reinstated our water exercise classes.  Water exercise classes are on Monday and Wednesday evenings at 6:00 pm and Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9:30 and 10:30am.  Classes are currently held in the warm water therapy pool.   We plan to offer a main pool water exercise class coming in the near future.  Registration is available online or by calling the office.

We have many fun programming opportunities coming up in the near future.  We will be running a day camp for students on November 22 and November 23.  There will be a cookie decorating class on December 4 where participants will learn to make royal icing and decorate cookies.  Cardio drumming is on the horizon, beginning in January.  Men’s over 40 basketball will be starting soon on Monday nights in the CMS gym.

Check the website for registration information at registration.swimcharlotte.org or call the office at 517.541.5740.
