City of Williamston issued the following announcement on Sept 15.
ROAD CLOSURE NOTICE - EDITED, updated map attached
Beginning Monday, September 20, South Putnam St. will be closed to traffic at the railroad crossing. The closure is anticipated to last through October 4. The posted detour route will route local traffic to Zimmer Road by way of Grand River Avenue to the north or Linn Road to the south. Truck traffic will be detoured along I-96 to M-52 at the Webberville exit and then to Grand River Avenue.
The traffic closure is part of a project to abandon two approximately 100-year old water mains that cross underneath the railroad tracks and replace with a new water main to improve water reliability in the system.
