City of Grand Ledge issued the following announcement on Aug 11.

WHAT IS HAPPENING? The City of Grand Ledge Department of Public Services (DPS) has unexpected but necessary filter repairs needed on the iron removal system at the water treatment plant.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT? Residents will experience a change in their water quality. Increased levels of iron may be present until repairs are complete. Residents will see discoloration and may experience a change in taste when consuming water. Please use caution when doing laundry August 17-24, 2021, as discoloration may cause rust stains on light clothing. If your laundry does become stained, do not put it in the dryer. Rewash clothes with detergent and rust removing agent.

Please note that water is SAFE for consumption and is not hazardous to your health. Iron is not hazardous to health, but may be considered a secondary or aesthetic contaminant. Iron is essential for good health and most tap water in the United States supplies approximately 5% of the dietary requirement for iron.

WHEN IS THIS HAPPENING? The City has hired a specialized mechanical contractor to complete the repairs. The repairs begin August 17, 2021. Residents could experience these noted changes in their tap water as early as 10:00 AM. While the repair is expected to take approximately two days, residents may continue to experience increased iron levels in the water for 5-7 days.

Following the iron removal system repairs, DPS will perform hydrant flushing in select areas to help restore water quality as soon as possible. Bi-annual hydrant flushing is scheduled for mid-September.
