Learn more about your watershed!

Watershed

City of Grand Ledge issued the following announcement on July 21.

Headed to #LakeMichigan over the holiday? Stormwater run-off from your home is already on its way there!

The Greater Lansing area is part of the Grand River Watershed, where all land drains to the Grand River (the longest in Michigan) before it discharges into Lake Michigan at Grand Haven. This means that any contaminants on the ground within the watershed boundary can be swept up by rain runoff and impact water resources much further downstream. Excess fertilizer, bacteria from pet waste, and oils from leaking vehicles are common pollutants that are picked up and concentrated as they move through the watershed. Keeping them off the ground helps keep them out of our waterways.

It doesn’t matter if you live miles from a river or a couple hours drive from the beach, your actions have a direct impact on Lake Michigan.
