78 percent of applicants to Michigan State University were admitted for fall 2018

At Michigan State University, 97 percent of undergraduate students are traditional students - age 24 or younger - and 51 percent are female, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The four-year public institution in East Lansing enrolled 50,351 students in fall 2018, including 39,423 in undergraduate and 10,928 in graduate programs, data shows. 4 percent of undergraduates transferred from another college or university.

78 percent of undergraduates are residents of Michigan, and 14 percent are residents of other states. 9 percent are citizens of foreign countries.

The undergraduate student body is comprised mostly of students who identify as white (68 percent) and Black or African American (7 percent).

The school admitted 78 percent of the 33,129 students who applied for fall 2018. Of those who were admitted, 34 percent enrolled.
