Mount Rest Cemetery in St. Johns has a new Michigan state flag, thanks to a donation by state Rep. Graham Filler (R-DeWitt).
Filler donated the new flag as a replacement flag for the cemetery, located at 701 E. Steel St., according to the Michigan House Republicans website.
The Michigan State Legislature adopted the state’s official flag in 1911. The flag is blue and features “the arms of the State.” The bald eagle stands for the United States, and the moose and elk both signify Michigan, according State Symbols USA.

The Latin phrases on the state flag are: “E Pluribus Unum,” meaning “From many, one;” “Tuebor,” meaning “I will defend;” and “Si Quaeris Peninsulam Amoenam, Circumspice,” meaning “If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look about you,” explains State Symbols USA.
Among Filler’s public and professional affiliations are his support of the National Rifle Association, Right to Life of Clinton County and the Farm Bureau, according to his profile on the Michigan House Republicans website.
