State Rep. Sarah Lightner (R-Springport) has urged her constituents to stay calm and adhere to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s stay-at-home order.
The order directs residents to stay at home, unless they are going to work, shopping for groceries or visiting the doctor. Whitmer issued the order in late March in an effort to “flatten the curve” against the spread of the novel coronavirus.
“The number of cases in Michigan skyrocketed from zero to more than 1,000 in just 13 days,” Lightner said, according to Michigan House Republicans. “We must take limiting the spread of coronavirus very seriously. We can all do our part by staying home as much as possible and following the advice of medical experts. Please, heed their warnings and take preventative measures, such as washing your hands often, cleaning frequently touched services and practicing social distancing.”
As of April 9, Michigan's total cases of COVID-19 have risen to 21,500, according to Michigan.gov. Jackson County has 131 cases and 4 deaths, Lenawee County has 39 cases and no deaths, and Eaton County has 69 cases and 3 deaths. These are all counties included in Lightner's district.
Lightner said her office is ready to help residents and answer their questions. Constituents can reach her office by calling (517) 373-1775 or emailing SarahLightner@house.mi.gov.
