State Rep. Sarah Lightner (R-Springport) is among those representatives in the state legislature seeking to ensure Michigan's health and safety during the spread of the new coronavirus.
Lightner recently supported an emergency budget plan that included $25 million to assist in monitoring the virus, in addition to testing and control. In a statement to her constituents, Lightner said she wanted to stress that the state, in partnership with health care, is working to control the virus.
“Please know, our local health departments are following protocol handed down from the CDC [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] to help prevent the spread of COVID-19,” Lightner said in a statement on Michigan House Republicans. “They are working day and night to ensure the health and safety of our communities, and I am in consistent communication with the department and MDHHS [Michigan Department of Health and Human Services] to relay any relevant information that I can.”
As of Monday, March 23, Michigan was reporting 1,328 confirmed COVID-19 cases, along with 15 deaths, reported by Fox2Detroit.
Lightner encouraged constituents to seek accurate, reliable information about the new coronavirus and practice preventative measures, such as washing hands, sanitizing surfaces and staying home if you're feeling sick.
