No arrests have been made in connection with the Waverly Community Schools' announcement that a substitute teacher had been barred following a complaint from a student.
“We’re still checking the validity and working with the schools,” Jerri Nesbitt, an Eaton County sheriff's office spokesperson, told WILX 10.
An email was sent to parents in February saying that the teacher had been barred "effective immediately." According to this email, a student reported that the incident happened a few years ago at Waverly High School involving a teacher who was employed by EduStaff, a Grand Rapids-based educational staffing company.
WLNS.com reports that the student said she was inappropriately touched by the teacher. “Our primary concern is the safety of our students and staff,” the email read. “We will continue to cooperate with law enforcement agencies from Eaton and Ingham counties as they investigate this matter.”
Waverly Community Schools Superintendent Kelly Blake told WILX, "It is under investigation by the police, and this person is not an employee of ours."
