Michigan State University’s hockey team is set to conclude its first semester with a two-game series against the University of Minnesota. The games will take place on Friday, December 13, and Saturday, December 14, at the 3M Arena at Mariucci in Minneapolis. This matchup features two of the top-ranked teams in the country.

Both Michigan State and Minnesota are leading in overall winning percentages. Minnesota holds a record of 15-2-1 (.861), while Michigan State stands at 12-2-0 (.857). These teams also boast some of the highest-scoring offenses in the Big Ten Conference. Minnesota averages 4.11 goals per game, ranking second nationally, and Michigan State averages 3.36 goals per game, placing them seventh.

Key players for Michigan State include Charlie Stramel and Isaac Howard, who both contributed significantly to their recent victory over Wisconsin. Howard leads his team with 17 points and ranks sixth in the Big Ten for points per game. Daniel Russell leads Michigan State in goals with eight and is tied for the national lead in game-winning goals with five.

Matt Basgall has been instrumental as an alternate captain, contributing assists and leading the team in blocked shots. Graduate transfer Nicklas Andrews has also been pivotal on defense with a +12 rating.

In goal, Trey Augustine has performed impressively as one of college hockey’s youngest starting goaltenders. He ranks highly both within the conference and nationally in several categories including wins and save percentage.
