Michigan State’s women’s basketball team emerged victorious in a closely contested game against Iowa at the Breslin Center. Head Coach Robyn Fralick acknowledged the challenging nature of the match, stating, “A great basketball game today at the Breslin Center. A lot of credit to Iowa, coming in, we knew they were a good team, a really tough matchup.”

The game concluded with Michigan State securing victory on the final possession. Coach Fralick expressed pride in her team’s resilience despite lacking momentum during much of the game. She credited Nyla Hampton for sparking their performance and highlighted Julia Ayrault’s crucial defensive play: “I thought Julia’s (Ayrault) defense on that last play was really really good.”

Reflecting on the comeback, Fralick noted her team’s familiarity with challenging situations this season and emphasized key moments such as steals and rebounds that shifted momentum in their favor. She also praised freshman Ines Sotelo for her contributions: “Ines Sotelo, our freshman, in that second half really did some good things in our press.”

Addressing turnovers in the second half, Fralick remarked on improved ball movement after halftime adjustments: “We harped at halftime about ball movement… I just thought we did a much better job of moving the ball.”

Despite missing 10 free throws and committing a lane violation, Michigan State managed to secure the win. Fralick stated, “Credit to our team, when the game was on the line, we played some really good defense.”

The physicality of Iowa posed challenges for Michigan State early on with 14 offensive rebounds by their opponents. However, adjustments in rebounding strategy proved effective: “The second half was much better… when we rebound, our offense is much better,” Fralick concluded.
