Michigan State Women’s Basketball Head Coach Robyn Fralick shared her thoughts after a successful game against Yale, highlighting the Spartans’ strong defensive performance and team spirit. Fralick praised her team’s ability to keep opponents under 50 points, emphasizing improvements in defense as a key focus this offseason.

Fralick acknowledged areas for improvement, noting that “there’s so many nuances that I’m like ‘we’ve got to clean up moving forward’. But that’s what’s fun about the game, you’re always in pursuit to get better.”

Discussing the implementation of trap defense, Fralick explained the importance of effort and strategy: “Well, you have to play hard, and everybody has to do it.” She encouraged aggression among her players when unsure.

Junior forward Grace VanSlooten received recognition for her physical presence on the court. Fralick commented on her development: “She’s got a ton of experience and she’s working really hard.”

The team’s offensive strategy included an emphasis on forcing the ball inside. Fralick noted their effectiveness at drawing fouls and shooting free throws but saw room for improvement: “I still watch us, and I think of so many things we can do better.”

Graduate guard Jaddan Simmons was commended for her defensive skills. “Jaddan is an elite defender,” said Fralick, praising her reliability.

Redshirt freshman guard Kennedy Blair also impressed after returning from injury. “I’m so proud of her,” stated Fralick, highlighting Blair’s fitness level and playmaking abilities.

Regarding Yale’s guards, Fralick recognized their skill but felt confident in Michigan State’s defense: “I thought our team was pretty dialed in on guarding them.”

Freshman forward Juliann Woodard contributed positively off the bench. Fralick appreciated the support from the student section known as ‘Breslin Boom’, stating: “That’s our student section and I can feel them, I love them.”

Overall team energy was highlighted as crucial by Fralick: “Our energy and effort have been really good.” She emphasized maintaining team spirit throughout the season while focusing on basketball improvements.
