Director of the Michigan Department of Heath and Human Services (MDHHS) Robert Gordon made a statement blaming the state’s residents for the ongoing spread of the COVID-19 virus and extended the lockdown, closing indoor service at bars and restaurants until Friday, Jan. 15, according to Michigan Capitol Confidential.
“Because COVID is everywhere in our state and because sadly... we still have a lot of folks who are... we’re not doing all the things we need to do.... If we are all doing those things, we will get the virus under control,” Gordon said on the "Michigan's Big Show" radio program. “But we’re doing these things partly, not all the way, so the virus continues to spread.”
Gordon’s statement echoes that of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and other state officials who have repeatedly claimed that high levels of coronavirus cases are a result of Michigan residents not following state orders. However, their statements have not been backed up by scientific evidence.
By contrast, the nearby states of Ohio, Indiana and Wisconsin show similar infection rates, according to Worldometers.info, despite still allowing bars and restaurants to continue indoor service.
